The Beginnings …

Taken from an interview with Global Voice Magazine/TV Show, Dec. 2015

Tell us about yourself:

I grew in a very small town in western Kansas. My mother was a school teacher and my father worked at the local agriculture cooperative. I chose a nearby college/university that had a good business program and that was affordable as I knew I would have to pay for my own education. I worked full-time – on campus, fast food, technical support specialist for the local call center and then was fortunate to be promoted into human resources for that call center. I worked hard, learned as much as I could, and loved every minute of it. After graduation, I wanted increased responsibility in human resources which meant I would need to move to a larger city.  I decided I would give Denver or Kansas City a try…and literally flipped a coin.  Kansas City won out and I enjoyed my years there.  Great people, great city.

Why did you start your company, GroundFloorHR:

After business experience in call centers, banking, construction equipment, construction, and crop insurance, it was time to venture out of corporate America. The valuable lessons learned through the recession, recovery, restructures, and buyouts serve me well.  I have also been fortunate to have worked in small and large sized companies. After careful reflection, I realized that I really liked small business and wanted to help them grow. And when it comes to employees, hiring, employment law, record-keeping obligations, etc. many small businesses don’t know where to start. That is where I could help. I could take my experience and help companies get started and as they grow, I am there to provide continued support and advice.
